HVAC & Plumbing Services in Cambridge, MA
Pick an Outdoor Unit That Fits Your Lot, Your Street and the Noise Rules
Your Cambridge place should be warm on a January morning, cool in July and ready with hot water at the tap.
In Cambridge, the job often has one more step: deciding where the equipment goes. Some streets sit in historic or conservation districts, and the city has noise rules for outdoor units. Our Newton shop is about 25 minutes from Harvard Square. A licensed technician comes to you, plans the work around your lot, and gives you the price before any work starts.
Send us your contact details, and we call back to set a real arrival time at your Cambridge home or building.

Franklin and Newton, open 24 hours
No heat and no cooling calls
Cool Your Cambridge Home Without a Loud Unit Next to the Neighbors
Window units that rattle all night. A condenser with nowhere good to go. A system that runs all day and still can’t cool the upper floor. These are the cooling problems we help with in Cambridge. Most start with sizing and placement, so we measure the house first, then repair or replace.

AC Installation & Replacement
A new AC should fit your house and your lot. Before we quote, we run a room by room load calculation and pick a spot for the outdoor unit. Next, the choices are laid out next to each other for you to compare.
Have ducts? Existing ductwork opens the door to central air or a ducted heat pump. Boiler and no ducts? A ductless mini split cools the rooms you use most. One written price covers equipment, labor, permits and cleanup.
- Central air on existing ductwork
- Ductless mini splits for homes without ducts
- Small duct high velocity systems
- Cold climate heat pumps that heat and cool
- Room by room load calculation
- Permit and town inspection handled
AC Repair
When your AC quits on a hot day, you want someone at the door soon and a straight answer. Our Newton shop dispatches a technician, and that visit is often the same day. After testing the system, we point out the failed part and quote the repair before touching anything.
Wear can make an outdoor unit louder, so we listen for that too. If a repair costs more than the system is worth, we tell you, and you decide.
- Blowing warm air or not cooling
- Ice on the lines or the indoor coil
- Water leaking near the air handler
- Outdoor unit humming but not starting
- Short cycling or weak airflow
- Central air, heat pumps and mini splits

AC Maintenance & Tune-Ups
Book a spring tune-up before the first hot week. We clean the coils, check the refrigerant charge, and test common failure parts such as capacitors and contactors. You get a written report when each visit wraps up.
Regular service also helps keep noise down as a unit ages. Keeping a warranty valid often means yearly service, which many manufacturers ask for.
- Indoor and outdoor coil cleaning
- Refrigerant level check
- Capacitor and contactor test
- Condensate drain flushed
- Thermostat check
- Written report every visit

Steady Heat for Your Cambridge Home, With the Price Written Down First
Gas furnaces. Oil and gas boilers. Radiators, baseboard and heat pumps. We work on all of them in Cambridge. Whatever heats your building, the goal is the same: even heat in every room, a system that starts on cold mornings, and a price you see before we begin.

Furnace, Boiler & Heat Pump Installation
A new heating system is too big a purchase to guess at. First we study the building, the fuel it uses and the system already in place. A heat loss calculation then sets the size of the new unit, which keeps heat even and fuel use down.
Considering a different fuel? If gas is available on your street, we can quote a gas furnace or boiler. If it isn’t, a cold climate heat pump may fit, and Mass Save rebates may help pay for it. We also check where an outdoor unit can go before you commit.
- Gas furnaces
- Gas and oil boilers
- Oil to gas conversions
- Cold climate heat pumps
- Ductless and radiant heat
- Old equipment hauled away, permits filed
Furnace & Boiler Repair
A cold house in January can’t wait, and pipes can freeze within hours. Our Newton shop is open 24 hours, and we take no heat calls all winter.
Our repair work covers gas furnaces, oil and gas boilers, and heat pumps in Cambridge buildings. We find the cause, not just the symptom, and explain it in plain words. The price comes first, before any repair begins.
- No heat calls answered 24/7
- Furnace won't light or keeps shutting off
- Boiler losing pressure or leaking
- Circulator pump and zone valve problems
- Thermostat and control faults
- Frozen condensate lines on high efficiency units

Heating Maintenance & Tune-Ups
Find the problem before the first cold night. The fall tune-up covers cleaning and adjusting a furnace or boiler, plus a check that it burns safely.
Gas, oil and propane systems alike are tested for combustion and checked for carbon monoxide on every service visit. That keeps your household safe and helps hold fuel use down.
- Combustion analysis
- Carbon monoxide test
- Heat exchanger inspection
- Burner cleaning and adjustment
- Safety control test
- Flue and chimney vent check

Hot Water, Clear Drains and Dry Pipes for Your Cambridge Home
Need a plumber in Cambridge? The team that heats your building can also fix your water heater, faucets, toilets and leaks. Booking everything with us means a single call and a single schedule. That helps when the boiler, the water heater and the pipes share the same mechanical space.

Tank & Tankless Water Heaters
Out of hot water? Rust at the tank or a puddle on the floor? Tank water heaters get repaired or replaced, and we also install tankless units that heat water on demand.
A tankless switch can mean changes to the gas line, venting and condensate drain. We plan all of it on the first visit, so nothing is missing from your written quote. In a tight space, we also check that the new unit fits and can be reached for service.
- Tank water heater repair and replacement
- Tankless water heater installation
- Gas line sizing and upgrades
- Venting and condensate drain work
- Descaling and yearly flushing
- Permits filed with the town
Kitchen & Bathroom Plumbing
Water and patience both drain away when a faucet drips, a toilet runs or a drain is slow. Small repairs like these are routine. So are larger jobs, from new fixtures to dishwasher and ice maker lines to rough-in plumbing for a kitchen or bathroom remodel.
The written price arrives before any work begins. When a job needs a plumbing permit, we pull it through the City’s Inspectional Services Department.
- Faucet and sink installation
- Toilets, showers, tubs and vanities
- Garbage disposals
- Dishwasher and ice maker lines
- Remodel rough-in
- Leak, clog and drain repair

Power a Heat Pump or Central Air Without Hiring a Second Contractor
Before you add a heat pump or central air, two questions come up. Can my panel carry the load? And can I improve the air while the crew is here? We answer both in one visit, so you don’t have to book a separate electrician.

Electrical Service & Panel Upgrades
Many older panels have no spare room for a heat pump, central air or an EV charger. Checking the panel comes before you buy, which keeps install day free of surprises. Panel upgrades, new circuits and everyday electrical work are done by our licensed electricians, and permits and inspection are part of the job.
- 100 amp to 200 amp panel upgrades
- Dedicated circuits for HVAC equipment
- EV charger circuits
- Outlets, switches and lighting
- Code corrections
- Permits and inspection handled
Indoor Air Quality
Dust on every surface, stuffy rooms and dry winter air point to an air problem, not a cleaning problem. Whole home filtration, humidity control and fresh air ventilation can be added onto the system you already own.
Tight, newer buildings can hold stale air. Older ones can be drafty and dry. We look at how your building breathes, then recommend only what it needs.
- Whole home air filtration
- UV air purification
- Humidifiers and dehumidifiers
- Fresh air ventilation
- Duct sealing and repair
- Help with allergy and mold concerns

We had a large HVAC installation project, and Bryan and Ryan exceeded our expectations from start to finish. They were incredibly professional, prompt, friendly, and attentive to every detail. They took great care to ensure the work was done right, and the quality of the installation and final results truly reflect that. The entire experience was excellent, and we couldn't be happier with the outcome. In fact, everyone at Accurate Baker Elman was wonderful to work with, and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality HVAC work!Posted on Google![]()

Replaced an old natural gas fired furnace. Initial tech did a very thorough job of documenting the issue and included video to show the problem. Sales was professional and knowledgeable and arranged for a replacement of the entire system in just a couple of days. I can’t say enough good things about Brian, the lead installer, and his team. Everyone was very professional and answered my many questions about the new system. They were fast, clean, knowledgeable, and clearly took pride in their work.Posted on Google![]()

Common HVAC and Plumbing Questions in Cambridge
Yes. Our Newton shop is the closer of our two shops to Cambridge, about 25 minutes from Harvard Square, and it is open 24 hours. If heat or cooling is out, or a leak is active, dial (617) 882-0409. They go to the City’s Inspectional Services Department, which administers the state building, plumbing and gas, electrical and mechanical codes. Its site lists building permits, electric, plumbing and gas permits, and a separate application for furnaces, boilers and AC units. In Massachusetts, plumbing, gas and electrical permits must be pulled by a licensed contractor, so we file them and book the inspections.
All of Cambridge, ZIP codes 02138, 02139, 02140, 02141 and 02142. That includes areas around Harvard Square, Porter Square, Inman Square and Central Square, plus Cambridgeport, North Cambridge, East Cambridge and Strawberry Hill. We also serve the towns next door: Arlington, Belmont and Watertown, along with Somerville and Boston.
Cambridge’s Noise Ordinance limits equipment sound at your neighbor’s property line, with a lower limit at night. The City’s License Commission lists 60 dB(A) from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 50 dB(A) overnight. We compare sound ratings before you buy and place the unit as far from the shared line as your lot allows. Regular service helps too, because wear makes a unit louder over time.
The Cambridge Historical Commission reviews exterior changes that can be seen from a public way in the city’s historic and neighborhood conservation districts. Its HVAC guidelines prefer rear yards for outdoor units, and side yards may need a screening plan. Staff can tell you whether your project needs a certificate before work begins, and we plan the unit location with you before we quote.
Window units are reviewed in the Old Cambridge Historic District, according to the Cambridge Historical Commission. Its HVAC guidelines say they are not regulated in the neighborhood conservation districts. Not sure which district your street is in? Ask Commission staff before you buy. If window units are the problem, a ductless system can cool several rooms from one outdoor unit.
Sometimes a short run of refrigerant line sits on an exterior wall, depending on where the indoor and outdoor units go. We choose locations that keep lines short and out of the front view where the layout allows. In a historic or conservation district, rear locations are the ones the Historical Commission’s guidelines prefer.
Shut off the main water valve, usually near where the water line enters the building. In a multi unit building, ask your landlord or building manager where the shutoff is. If water is near outlets or the electrical panel, keep clear and do not touch them. Then call us, and we give you an arrival window.
