Keep the Radiators, Add Cooling, and Let Us Worry About Parking

You want a place that just works. Radiators that knock to life in January. Cool air in an upper floor unit in July. Hot water when the whole building showers at once.

Boston buildings are tight on space, and many have no ductwork at all. Our Newton shop is about 25 minutes from much of Boston. A licensed technician comes to you, plans the access and parking ahead of time, finds the real problem, and gives you the price before any work starts.

Cooling

Cool a Rowhouse, a Triple Decker or a Condo Without Tearing Into Walls

Bedrooms that bake under the roof. Window units that block the light and the view. A radiator building with no place to run a duct. These are the cooling problems we hear about most in Boston. Many come from buildings that were never designed for air conditioning. We measure first, then recommend what fits.

AC Installation & Replacement

In a city building, the hard part of cooling is the layout, not the equipment. Before we quote, we walk the space and do a room by room load calculation. Then you compare the options next to each other.

Radiators and no ducts? A ductless mini split puts quiet cooling in the rooms you use most, with slim refrigerant lines instead of ductwork. Already have ducts? Existing ducts may allow central air or a ducted heat pump. One written price covers the equipment, labor, permits and cleanup.

AC Repair

An AC that quits during a heat wave in a third floor unit is miserable. You need someone at the door soon and a straight answer. We send a technician from our Newton shop, often the same day. We test the system, show you the failed part, and quote the repair before we start.

If a repair would cost more than the system is worth, we tell you straight. The decision is yours.

AC Maintenance & Tune-Ups

A spring tune-up is the simplest way to avoid a July breakdown. We clean the coils, check refrigerant levels, and test the parts that wear out first, like capacitors and contactors. Each visit leaves you with a written report.

Condensers on roofs and in tight side yards collect leaves, dust and grit. A clean unit runs cooler, and many manufacturers ask for yearly service to keep a warranty valid.

Heating

Steady Heat Through Every Boston Winter, Radiators Included

Boilers with radiators or baseboard. Gas furnaces. Oil and gas systems. Heat pumps. Boston buildings use all of them, and we work on all of them. Whatever heats your home, the goal is the same: steady heat in every room, a system you can rely on, and a price you see before we start.

Heating Installation & Replacement in Boston, MA

Furnace, Boiler & Heat Pump Installation

Replacing a heating system is a big decision, and a city building makes it harder. Basements are tight and vent paths are short. We look at your building, your fuel and your current system. Then we size the new one with a heat loss calculation, so it heats evenly and wastes less fuel.

Moving off oil? Where gas runs on your street, we can quote a gas boiler or furnace. Where it doesn’t, a cold climate heat pump may be the better fit, and Mass Save rebates may help cover it.

Furnace & Boiler Repair

No heat in January can’t wait. Pipes can freeze in hours, and in a shared building one dead boiler can leave several households cold. That is why we take no heat calls 24/7, all winter, from our Newton shop.

We repair gas and oil boilers, furnaces and heat pumps. We trace the fault back to its source and tell you in plain words what broke. You approve the repair price first.

Heating Maintenance & Tune-Ups

The easiest time to catch a heating problem is before the first cold night. A fall tune-up cleans and adjusts your boiler or furnace and checks that it burns safely.

Every gas and oil system we service gets a combustion test and a carbon monoxide check. In a building where people live on several floors, that check matters. It also helps keep fuel bills down.

Plumbing

Hot Water, Clear Drains and Dry Ceilings in Your Boston Home

Looking for plumbing help in Boston? The same team that heats your home can fix your water heater, faucets, toilets and leaks. One call, one schedule. That helps in a city building, where the boiler, the water heater and the pipes often share one small basement or utility closet.

Tanked & Tankless Water Heaters

Tank & Tankless Water Heaters

Out of hot water? Rust or a puddle around the tank? We repair and replace standard tank water heaters, and we install tankless units that heat water only when you ask for it.

In a city unit, a tankless switch can mean a new gas line, venting and a condensate drain. We check all of it on the first visit, so nothing is missing from your written quote. In a condo, we also check where the vent can run before you buy.

Kitchen & Bathroom Plumbing

A leaky faucet, a toilet that keeps running or a sink that drains slowly adds up fast. We fix those, and we take on bigger jobs too: new fixtures, dishwasher and ice maker lines, and rough-in plumbing for a kitchen or bath remodel.

The price is written down and agreed before we pick up a tool. In older buildings, we plan around shared stacks and shutoffs, so a water shutoff is planned and not a surprise.

Electrical & Air

Add a Heat Pump to an Older Building Without Hiring a Second Contractor

Adding a heat pump or central air to a Boston building raises two questions. Does the electrical panel have room? And can we improve the air while we are there? We answer both in one visit, so you do not have to schedule a separate electrician.

Electrical Service & Panel Upgrades in Boston, MA

Electrical Service & Panel Upgrades

Many older panels have no room for a heat pump, central air or an EV charger. We check your panel before you buy equipment, so install day has no surprises. Licensed electricians on our team do panel upgrades, new circuits and routine electrical work, and the permit and inspection come with the job.

Indoor Air Quality

Dust that comes back the day after you clean, stuffy rooms and dry winter air usually mean the air needs attention. We add filtration, humidity control and fresh air ventilation to the system you already have.

A renovated condo can be sealed tight and hold stale air. An old rowhouse can be leaky and dry. We look at how your space breathes, then recommend only what it needs.

We had a large HVAC installation project, and Bryan and Ryan exceeded our expectations from start to finish. They were incredibly professional, prompt, friendly, and attentive to every detail. They took great care to ensure the work was done right, and the quality of the installation and final results truly reflect that. The entire experience was excellent, and we couldn't be happier with the outcome. In fact, everyone at Accurate Baker Elman was wonderful to work with, and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality HVAC work!

Replaced an old natural gas fired furnace. Initial tech did a very thorough job of documenting the issue and included video to show the problem. Sales was professional and knowledgeable and arranged for a replacement of the entire system in just a couple of days. I can’t say enough good things about Brian, the lead installer, and his team. Everyone was very professional and answered my many questions about the new system. They were fast, clean, knowledgeable, and clearly took pride in their work.

Questions

Boston HVAC and Plumbing Questions, Answered

Call (617) 882-0409. Our Newton shop is open 24 hours and is the closest of our shops to Boston, about 25 minutes from much of the city depending on the neighborhood and traffic. Arrival times depend on the weather and how many calls come in, so we give you a real time window on the phone.

Most installs and replacements need one, yes. The City of Boston Inspectional Services Department handles permit applications, and its plumbing, gas and electrical permits can only be applied for by the licensed contractor doing the work. A single boiler or heat pump job can need more than one permit. Filing and inspection scheduling are handled by us.

We serve the city of Boston from our Newton shop, including Back Bay, the South End, Beacon Hill, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, West Roxbury, Dorchester, South Boston and Hyde Park. Brighton and Charlestown have their own pages: Brighton and Charlestown. If you are not sure we cover your block, call and ask.

Often yes, but you may need approval first. If your building has a condo association, its rules usually decide where an outdoor unit can go, and a tenant needs the landlord to sign off. Exterior work in the Back Bay, Beacon Hill and South End historic districts can also need commission review when it is visible from a public way. We go over placement options with you before we quote.

A ductless mini split is the usual answer. One outdoor unit connects to slim indoor units in the rooms you choose, with no new ducts to build. Each floor can have its own system, so each unit controls its own cooling. Heat pump models also provide heat in spring and fall, which can take some load off the boiler.

It depends on the boiler’s age and condition, your fuel, and how you want to use your radiators. A new efficient boiler keeps your radiators and fits a tight basement. A heat pump can replace the boiler or work alongside it, and it cools in summer. We show you the options side by side with written prices, and you choose.

We plan it during the estimate visit. We measure stairs, doors, hallways and roof access, then choose equipment that fits the path. If a job needs a truck, dumpster or container to occupy part of the street or sidewalk, the City of Boston has a street occupancy permit for that, and it is applied for at least seven business days ahead. That is why we ask about parking and access when you call.

Many Boston homeowners can. Mass Save is sponsored by Eversource and National Grid, and the City of Boston works with both on energy savings programs. Rebates and the 0% HEAT Loan can apply to qualifying heat pumps, and the amounts depend on your home, the system you replace and your household. A Home Energy Assessment is often part of the process, and rebate amounts change, so we confirm current numbers before you commit.
