Air Conditioning in Norfolk, MA: Central, Ductless and Heat Pump
Many Norfolk homes were built between the 1970s and the 1990s, so a lot of cooling equipment in town is near the end of its life. The call we get most often is a second floor that never cools down.

AC Installation & Replacement in Norfolk
We work out how much cooling your house needs, room by room, before we price anything. In June we replaced a 25-year-old ductless unit in a Norfolk home with a Mitsubishi rated 22.2 SEER2, with the refrigerant lines hidden in covers.
- Central air on the ducts you already have
- Ductless heads for rooms with no ductwork
- Slim small-duct systems for tight chases
- Heat pumps that cool in July and heat in January
- Cooling load worked out before we price it
- Town permit and inspection on our side
AC Repair in Norfolk
When the AC quits, we send a technician from Franklin, the same day when the schedule allows. You hear what failed and what it costs before we fix it. This summer we traced one Norfolk home’s warm second floor to a leak at the attic coil, then repaired and pressure tested it.
- Warm air coming from the vents
- Frost or ice on the copper lines
- A puddle under the indoor unit
- Outdoor unit hums but will not start
- System runs all day and the house stays warm
- Central, ductless and heat pump systems

AC Tune-Ups for Norfolk Homes
Book your AC tune-up in spring, before the first heat wave. We clean the coils and blower, test the electrical parts and measure the air at your vents. On one Norfolk visit this June it read 45 to 50 degrees, right where it should be.
- Coils cleaned inside and out
- Refrigerant pressures and temperatures recorded
- Capacitors and other electrical parts tested
- Drain line flushed so it cannot back up
- Thermostat checked against a room reading
- Supply air temperature measured at the registers

Heating in Norfolk, MA: Furnaces, Boilers and Heat Pumps
Oil, propane, natural gas, hot water baseboard and heat pumps. Whatever your Norfolk home runs on, we work on it.

Furnace & Boiler Replacement in Norfolk
A furnace that is too small never catches up on a cold night. This June we replaced a two-year-old Norfolk system that could not hold temperature with a 60,000 BTU Trane furnace sized to the house. Heating with oil or propane? Ask us about a cold climate heat pump and Mass Save rebates.
- High efficiency gas furnaces
- Gas, oil and propane boilers
- Oil to gas switches where gas runs on your street
- Cold climate heat pumps
- Radiant floors and ductless heads
- Old equipment hauled out and the permit filed
No Heat and Heating Repair
Most no-heat calls come down to one failed part, like an igniter, flame sensor, pressure switch or circulator. We find it, show it to you and give you the price before we replace it. If the same part keeps failing, we tell you whether repairing it still makes sense.
- No heat calls answered day and night
- Igniter, flame sensor and pressure switch faults
- Furnaces that short cycle
- Boilers losing pressure or leaking
- Circulators and zone valves
- Zone dampers stuck open or closed

Fall Heating Tune-Ups
An early fall tune-up, before the first cold night in Norfolk, with a full combustion analysis and carbon monoxide safety check. That last part is the one most companies leave off the list.
- Combustion analysis with a printed reading
- Carbon monoxide check at the appliance
- Heat exchanger inspected for cracks
- Burner cleaned and adjusted
- Safety switches tested
- Venting checked from the appliance to the chimney or sidewall

Plumbing and Water Heaters in Norfolk, MA
Outside the small sewer area in the town center, Norfolk homes are on septic, and we plan plumbing work with that in mind. Our plumbers also handle water heaters, so one company can look after the boiler, the water heater and the pipes between them.

Tank, Tankless and Heat Pump Water Heaters
Running low on hot water, or is the old tank rumbling or leaking? We repair and replace tank heaters and install Navien and Rinnai tankless units. Your quote covers the gas line, venting and drain work, so there are no add-ons later. On a private well, we test the water first so the new heater lasts.
- Navien and Rinnai tankless units
- Rheem tank and hybrid models
- Gas line sized for the new load
- Tank to tankless swaps
- Yearly flush and descale
- Permit pulled with the town
Bathroom Remodels and Kitchen Plumbing
Whether it is one leaking shutoff or a full bathroom remodel, you get the price before we start. On a recent Norfolk remodel, our plumbers set the new toilet and replaced a rusted shutoff along the way, and the homeowner has asked us back for the second bathroom.
- Faucets, sinks and vanities
- Toilets, tubs and showers
- Shutoff valves replaced
- Disposals, where the septic can take one
- Dishwasher and refrigerator water lines
- Rough-in for a remodel

Panels, Circuits and Cleaner Air for Norfolk Homes
A new heat pump often raises two questions: can your electrical panel carry it, and can the air in the house be cleaner? Our own electricians and HVAC technicians answer both, so you do not need a second company.

Panel Upgrades and Electrical Service
Before a heat pump goes in, we check what your panel can carry. On a newer Norfolk home this summer, the existing 200 amp panel could handle a new Mitsubishi system, so the homeowner skipped an upgrade they did not need. When a panel is full, we upgrade it and pull the permit.
- Panel upgrades to 200 amps
- Circuits for heat pumps and AC
- EV charger wiring
- Lights, outlets and switches
- Fixes for code problems
- Wiring permits and inspections
Indoor Air Quality in Norfolk
Does the house feel stuffy, dusty or bone dry by February? Better filters, a humidifier or fresh air ventilation usually fixes it, set up to work with your heating and cooling. If a ductless unit smells musty, we deep clean the blower wheel and coil on site.
- Whole house filters
- UV lights at the coil
- Humidifiers for dry winter air
- Dehumidifiers for damp basements
- Fresh air ventilation
- Deep cleaning for ductless units

Recent Work in Norfolk
A few of the jobs our crews finished in Norfolk this summer. Photos are from the jobs themselves.

Mitsubishi multi-zone heat pump in a newer home
A Mitsubishi 3-to-1 system installed by another company stopped cooling in July. After replacing the failed control boards, we installed a new Mitsubishi heat pump condenser and branch box in late August, feeding wall heads in the living areas and a home gym. Our electrician checked the existing panel first and confirmed it could carry the load.

A 25-year-old ductless unit replaced
The original single-zone unit had been running for 25 years. We replaced it with a Mitsubishi 1.25 ton cooling system rated 22.2 SEER2, set the outdoor unit on a new pad under the deck, and ran the refrigerant lines inside covers along the wall.

An undersized furnace and AC, replaced and sized right
A two-year-old furnace and AC put in by another contractor could not hold temperature. Our load check showed why: 40,000 BTU of heat and 2 tons of cooling for a house that needed more. We replaced them with a 60,000 BTU two-stage Trane furnace at 96% efficiency, a 3 ton 17 SEER2 AC, and a bypass damper for the zoning.

Questions Norfolk Homeowners Ask Us
Call (508) 301-3470 at any hour. Our Franklin shop is about 15 minutes from Norfolk center, and our Newton shop covers the town from the north when the Franklin crew is tied up. Winter nights are our busiest stretch, so tell the dispatcher how cold the house is getting and whether anyone at home is at risk.
We do. The Town of Norfolk Building Department handles building, gas, plumbing, sheet metal and electrical permits, and replacing one heating system can take two or three of them, such as gas and sheet metal for a new furnace. Massachusetts law requires a licensed contractor to pull those permits. We file them, book the inspection and stay with the job until it passes.
It depends on the equipment, the fuel and how much of the existing ductwork or piping can stay. The biggest factor we see in Norfolk is sizing. A system that is too small, like the 40,000 BTU furnace we replaced this year in a house that needed 60,000, struggles no matter what it cost. We measure the house, put the price in writing, and include the permit and removal of the old equipment.
In most of these homes, ductless mini splits are the answer. One outdoor unit can run several wall heads, so each room gets its own control. This summer we installed a Mitsubishi multi-zone heat pump in a Norfolk home with heads in the living areas and a home gym. If there is room for small ducts in closets or the attic, a slim-duct system is another choice, and heat pump versions of both heat in winter too.
Yes. Plenty of Norfolk houses still heat with hot water baseboard from an oil, propane or gas boiler, and we service and repair all three. When a boiler is near the end, we lay out the choices: a new boiler, a switch to gas if it runs on your street, or a cold climate heat pump with the boiler kept as backup.
Qualifying air source heat pumps can earn Mass Save rebates and the 0% HEAT Loan. The amount depends on whether the heat pump will be your only heating system or will run alongside the old one, what fuel it replaces, and your household income. We check the current rebate for your project before you sign and handle the forms.

Yes, and on a heat pump job that saves time. The heat pump, the circuit or panel upgrade, and any condensate or water heater work go on one estimate and one schedule, done by our own HVAC technicians, plumbers and electricians.
